Why Nashville’s HQ hub isn’t pursuing Amazon alone

Originally published in the Nashville Business Journal. Williamson County’s pitch to win Amazon.com Inc.’s immense second headquarters practically writes itself. But economic development officials there aren’t taking the bait. Over the last quarter-century, the suburban county has grown into the region’s esteemed corporate headquarters hub. The county, directly south of Nashville, is the fastest-growing in Tennessee and led the nation in job growth in five of the past seven quarters. The county boasts high-performing public schools. The county has one of the 20-highest median household incomes in the U.S. and ample executive housing. More than half of its adult population has at least a bachelor’s degree.
